Her Coat Will Not Look the Same in Six Months

Long-coated kittens go through an awkward stage. The ruff around the neck and the plume on the tail arrive last, often not until nine or ten months. Until then Mona will look plush but not yet dramatic.

The marble pattern also shifts as the coat lengthens. Because the silver base grows out faster than the tipping, the swirls appear softer in a long coat than they would on a shorthair. As a result, she reads as smoky rather than sharply patterned.

Summer and Winter Are Different Cats

She will drop much of her undercoat in late spring and grow it back through autumn. Consequently, a longhair Munchkin looks noticeably slimmer in July than in January, and the seasonal shed needs daily brushing for two or three weeks each time.

Outside those periods, twice a week keeps her comfortable. She has been brushed since she was small, so she sits still for it.
