What “Fluffy” Actually Means Here

Long-coated kittens carry a recessive gene, so they appear only occasionally in litters where both parents happen to carry it. Elsa’s coat stands away from her body rather than lying flat, and it is noticeably longer around her ruff, her britches and her tail.

On a short-legged cat the effect is unusual. Because her body sits low, the longer coat gives her a rounded, almost toy-like outline that photographs extremely well. Her folded ears add to it.

The Grooming Commitment

This is the part most buyers underestimate. A long coat needs brushing two or three times a week, and daily during seasonal shedding. If you skip it, mats form behind the ears and in the armpits, and mats have to be cut out rather than combed.

Because Elsa has been brushed since she was small, she sits still for it. However, she will still need someone willing to keep that up for the next fifteen years. If nobody in your household will realistically do that, a short-coated kitten would serve you better, and we have several.

Her Temperament

Elsa greets people with a soft meow and expects a response. She plays in gentle bursts — tapping a toy rather than launching at it — and then settles into whatever blanket is nearest. She attaches quickly to her people and follows them around the house.
